It can also include local stories with a national impact. News organizations that specialize in national coverage include news agencies, radio and television broadcasters, newspapers and magazines. Many of these outlets have blogs where viewers can get a glimpse behind the scenes or air their opinions on current events.
AP (Associated Press) is one of the largest news agencies in the world. It pumps out text, photos and video to thousands of clients around the globe including newspapers, websites and TV channels. It’s known for its fast and accurate reporting.
Fox News is another large and well-known news outlet. It handles all of the standard topics like politics, business, health updates and breaking news but is most famous for its conservative slant on stories. Its big names, such as Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow, are known for their bombastic personalities and straight to the point delivery.
ABC Evening News began in 1953 and was originally anchored by John Charles Daly who was known for his emcee role on the CBS game show, What’s My Line? He was succeeded by a number of different anchors including Harry Reasoner and Howard K. Smith before a young Peter Jennings joined as co-anchor in 1968. In 2005, the show switched to 24-hour coverage and announced that Janet Vargas and Judy Woodruff would become the program’s co-anchors.
